Chica

16 Dec 2018 - 28 May 2019

Joe Broghammer, United States, 1963, Chica, 2016, Oil pastel, Drawing for the cover of Chica, a children’s book written by Karen Duncan. Karen and Robert Duncan Collection

CCAM is particularly pleased to present Chica, an exhibition featuring the original drawings by Joseph Broghammer that illustrate Karen Duncan’s new children’s book.

Chica is a little grey dog’s story about her fortuitous rescue from a historic town in eastern Mexico. Mr. Broghammer’s whimsical illustrations and Mrs. Duncan’s balance of fact and fancy are bringing this magical love story into every heart.

Chica is Mrs. Duncan’s second book and follows her no-holds-barred, witty memoir titled Pieces of Me. The text for Chica is dual language, with Spanish translation by Ute Tiemann.

Mr. Broghammer was born in 1963 and grew up in Omaha, where he makes his home today. He graduated from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion and completed graduate work at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. His works have been collected and exhibited by museums and galleries throughout the United States and Europe.

CCAM will take mail orders for those wishing to acquire the book. The hardcover publication is scheduled to arrive from China the second week in February. Retail price is $20, plus tax. Please contact Director Trish Bergren at 712-435-0007 or director@clarindacarnegieartmuseum.com for further information.
